We all know, Cohn's adorable and you love every single song by him, but if you had to pick only one - for whatever reasons, which would it be and why?
If it was up to me, I'd say "Nowhere Fast". I think his best is "Rock of Ages" (I'm aware he didn't write it, but he has recorded an incredible version of it). "The Days" is a small beautiful piece that makes me shiver and get teary every time, and also the line of "She's Becoming Gold", where Marc sings "How slowly the answers unfold..." provokes magic in my imagination. Also, I am convinced that "Street of Windows" is entirely inspired, written and sang for me - well, "your green eyes are shining" and "your hair is red and brown"... obviously all about me, right? But "Nowhere Fast" makes me feel cosy and peaceful and somehow content... Probably because it fully responds to my introvert nature. When I was a child, I did wake up in the middle of the night, crawled up to the huge window of my room and watched the moon. So, that's the one I'd go with... Now, what's yours?
What an eloquent post. Love the fact you sat and looked out of the window. Charming. Favourite? That's asking the impossible. Sitting in car this morning I listened to Saving the best for last and it was fresh and inspiring. Then again, at the moment She's becoming gold is playing through the IPod (live version: 'over and over again') and its beauty is stunning. Simply stunning. Then again, when I want a good singalong in the shower it has to be One thing of beauty, or Dig down deep ('go waaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyy down'). Then again if I want to hear songwriting at its pinnacle, it has to be Healing Hands, or Strangers in a car, or The things we've handed down, or Let me be your witness.... You see the problem I have here!?! I may return to this thread! Shawn Oh, and I love Angelsong, and Faraway Nearby, and Blow on Chillywind!!!!!!
Blow on Chillywind for me!!! "Little grey around the crown, little hint of slowing down" Always makes me think, with a tear in my eye, of our sadly departed german shepherd. My "old soldier", even if that isn't the name of the song!!
You are correct: this very fine wine is ... very fine!
I always thought your fav was Faraway Nearby.
For obvious reasons.
Although I do remember seeing MC in Dingwalls in 1998 - then meeting him afterwards. Loved the fact that he played "Lost you in the canyon" when we had only heard it on Bob Harris's radio show.
We were probably the only ones who knew the words.
Oh yes, and Sunlight (Svet?!) why in God's name have you got Cher on you avatar? She DESTROYED WIM!!! I know it put Marc's kids through school but stilll!!!
Wouldn't put it as a favourite however it does take me back to those halcyon days when road safety was of no concern and we would ride the lanes of north yorkshire with all 4 windows down and 4 hands out the window in a "shining sea" hand motion. Bring on the 3 litre Monza!!

There, I changed it, only to show that I respect you (as long as you deliver MC to my door). I love the fact that Cher put Marc's kids through school. Can it get any cuter? ))

One thing that I miss, in talking about favorite Marc songs or lyrics, is the old site with all the lyrics posted. I could go there, browse around, and just savor the words again to all Marc's wonderful songs.
I used to have a special love for "True Companion", but now that I'm divorced, I kind of avoid it, because it brings me to tears. "One Safe Place" is more where I am right now... and it's a beautiful song.
