The mosquito attacks were absolutely brutal. I'll forever remember this as the mosquito show. No breeze at all, combined with the oppressive heat and humidity forced Betty LaVette to cut a sweet set short due to exhaustion. The intermission beween her set and Marc's was more than 45 minutes, right at dusk. The Lisle, IL mosquito population seemed to love this extended break. We almost left, but roughed it out and stayed 'cause we really wanted to see Marc. My girlfriend wore shorts and sandals, and acutally but the cases for the folding chairs over her legs like stockings it got so bad. Marc commented that the bugs were so bad on stage that they were crawling all over the instruments. It may have been out of mercy that he played Walking In Memphis, Silver Thunderbird, and Miles Away during the first hour of the set. We had to leave. I'll still by the new CD, so he didn't lose a sale. I just wanted to say that, in my opinion, the listless crowd had nothing to do with his performance - it had to do with the terrible conditions. Thanks for the show, Marc. We'll see you next time under better circumstances.

Is that why Bettye suddenly left the stage? I thought it was terribly abrupt. I wish she would have said something. Poor thing. She is amazing!!

Regarding the mosquitos, I was prepared. I picked up some German insect repellent last summer while in Europe. Best stuff I have ever used and it has a very light odor. I didn't get a single bite, but I have to say that I even ended up spraying my clothes because mosquitos where landing on my shirt. The hot temps and the heavy rain earlier in the day made the conditions perfect for a mosquito attack. You should have seen how drenched Marc and Shane were after the show. It was as if they had taken a shower fully clothed.

He'll be at Park West in October. A mosquito-free venue!
